Dakota NDT

The Dakota CX4 ultrasonic material thickness gauge suits a wide range of measurement applications.
It provides all the features and functionality required for accurate non-destructive testing of virtually any material.

Calibration Options for Accuracy and Efficiency

The Dakota CX4 provides a range of calibration options to ensure accuracy and reliability regardless of your test material.
A single point calibration method uses a known thickness to precisely calculate the material velocity.
Alternatively, a choice of 39 onboard velocities offers automatic pre-set calibration for most common material types.
The CX4 takes 4 reading per second to maintain comprehensive and detailed measurements across your test area.

Measure Uncoated and Coated Surfaces

Using different measurement modes, the CX4 can test uncoated or coated materials with protective surfaces such as paint, epoxy, polyethylene, etc.
Pulse-echo (PE) mode is the simplest and most common measurement mode, where the CX4 calculates material thickness from the time between the initial ultrasonic pulse and the first echo.
Echo-echo (EE) ThruPaint mode ignores protective coatings up to 2mm / 0.08" in thickness, providing a reading for only the concealed test material underneath.
Dakota's highly damped transducers are recommended for measurements through coatings, offering increased differentiation between material and coating signals:
Dakota T-1029-2700 Ultrasonic Dual Element Transducer (1/4", 5MHz)
Dakota T-1049-2700 Ultrasonic Dual Element Transducer (1/2", 5MHz)

Power Options and Runtime

With a runtime of up to 28 hours on 2 x AA cells (alkaline or lithium), the CX4 provides extended operation without frequent battery replacement.
For long-term or continuous use, the CX4 can also be line powered over a USB connection.

The CX4 is versatile and easy to use. Features include:

  • 0.63 to 500mm measurement range
  • 1,250 to 10,000m/s velocity range
  • 0.1mm / 0.01” resolution
  • Pulse-echo (PE) pit and flaw detection mode
  • Echo-echo (EE) through paint and coatings mode
  • 6cm / 2.4" scratch and solvent resistant TFT colour display
  • Dual element transducer V-path correction for accurate results
  • Automatic transducer recognition for error-free, efficient set-up
  • Measurement stability / repeatability indicator for reliable readings
  • Integrated zero disc for maximum accuracy and easy recalibration
  • IP64 rated waterproof and dust resistant housing
  • Operating temperature range of -10 to +50°C

The CX4 is ready to operate straight out of the box and is backed by Dakota's 2 years limited warranty.
