Dakota NDT

The Dakota CMX10-DL is a powerful, advanced ultrasonic thickness gauge designed for corrosion surveys and high precision measurements. Key features include:

  • A-scan and B-scan measurement modes with full wave recording for visual material profiles, detailed reviews and accurate defect information
  • Time corrected gain (TCG) and backwall echo attenuation (BEA) for improved detection of porosity, inclusions and cracks in noisy materials
  • 2nd layer mode for separate measurements of the base material and internal or external cladding or coatings
  • High resolution crack prove-up capability for fast confirmation of critical flaws and confident fit-for-service decisions in the field
  • Visual waveform analysis, signal optimisation tools and stability indicators for verification and less false negatives when identifying pits or corrosion
  • Compatibility with angular (prove-up) transducers for advanced corrosion, crack and pit detection
  • Compatibilty with single element delay line probes for high precision measurement of very thin materials
  • DakMaster software and mobile app for recording, GPS locations, field images, notes, customised reports, data transfer, analysis and storage
  • Screen sharing and remote viewing for live, real time collaboration with colleagues

User Friendly Interface

The Dakota CMX10-DL is simple to set up and easy to navigate, with glove-friendly touchscreen or keypad inputs and all functions selectable from the main menu.
Up to 50 custom setups can be created for routine thickness inspections.

Ruggedised for Industrial Applications

A heavy duty IP65 rated dust and waterproof impact resistant housing enables reliable operation in harsh environments and conditions.

Full Traceability for Inspection Quality Confidence

Variables such as transducer information, calibration methods, dates and times can be recorded, ensuring consistency and repeatability.

Multiple Calibration Options for Accuracy and Efficiency

The CMX10-DL provides a range of calibration options to ensure accuracy and reliability regardless of your test material.
Single and dual point calibration methods use a known thickness to precisely calculate the material velocity.
Custom material velocities can also be entered and stored manually.

A choice of fixed onboard velocities also offers automatic pre-set calibration for most common material types.
The CMX10-DL takes up to 20 reading per second to maintain comprehensive and detailed measurements across your test area.

Data Logging and Storage

128MB of internal storage holds up to 20,000 A-scans.
Up to 32GB of external storage holds up to 5,000,000 readings for uninterrupted recording on extended inspection work.
USB-C and Bluetooth LE connections provide flexible data output options.
DakMaster management software provides simple data transfer, detailed on-screen analysis, instant reporting and remote cloud acesss.

Material, Coating, Liner or Cladding Thickness Measurements for Flexibility in the Field

Using multiple advanced measurement modes and specialised transducers, the CMX10-DL can test uncoated or coated materials with liners or protective cladding.
Pulse-echo (PE) mode is the simplest and most common measurement mode. The CMX10-DL calculates material thickness from 0.18mm to 1,480mm / 0.007" to 58.3" using the time between the initial ultrasonic pulse and the first echo.
Echo-echo (EE) ThruPaint mode ignores protective coatings from 0.18mm to 592mm / 0.007" to 23.3" in thickness, providing a reading for only the concealed test material underneath.
Echo-echo verified (EEV) ThruPaint mode adds a second measurement to the standard echo-echo (EE) mode to confirm / verify the reading.
Second layer / cladding thickness (PE2) mode shows the condition of the base material and liner separately. The CMX10-DL uses multiple echoes to distinguish the outer wall from the inner liner or cladding layer beneath.
Second layer / cladding thickness ThruPaint (EE2) mode extends standard 2nd layer (PE2) mode to measure inner or outer liners that are obscured by coatings or an outer shell.

Time Corrected Gain and Backwall Echo Attenuation for Increased Probability of Detection

The CMX10-DL uses time corrected gain (TCG) and backwall echo attenuation (BEA) to boost critical signals and improve the probability of detection (POD) of porosity, inclusions or cracks in noisy or attenuative materials.
Enhanced time corrected gain (TCG) and filtering lifts later echoes without saturating the near surface. Flexible gain control is useful when testing rough or corroded backwalls where important echoes may be weak and buried in noise.
Backwall Echo Attenuation (BEA) enables signal amplitude monitoring. A reduction in backwall amplitude can indicate inconsistencies in material quality and structural integrity.

Flexible Power Options and Runtime

With a runtime of up to 15 hours on a rechargeable lithium-ion smart battery, the CMX10-DL is fueled for a full shift of thickness inspection tasks.
For long-term or continuous use, the CMX10-DL can also be powered by a mains supply.

The CMX10-DL is Accurate, Versatile and Feature Packed:

  • 0.18 to 1,480mm measurement range
  • 200 to 20,000m/s velocity range
  • 0.001mm / 0.0001” resolution
