The accuracy of infrared thermometers can be greatly affected by changing emissivity. Look for a device with adjustable emissivity if the reflectivity of your temperature source is not constant or varies across a range of surfaces. Also, a higher distance-to-spot ratio on your IR thermometer will help maintain accuracy across greater measuring distances. Considering both of these issues will help ensure your temperature measurements remain precise and reliable.
